Asymptotic flatness and Hawking quasilocal mass

چکیده
We point out an association between anomalies in the Hawking quasilocal mass (or, spherical symmetry, its better known version, Misner-Sharp-Hernandez mass) and unphysical properties of spacetime geometry. While anomalous behaviors show up certain quantum-corrected black holes, they are not unique to this context signal serious physical pathologies isolated gravitating systems general.

Is the Hawking Quasilocal Energy "Newtonian"?
The Misner–Sharp–Hernandez mass defined in general relativity and in spherical symmetry has been recognized as having a Newtonian character in previous literature. In order to better understand this feature we relax spherical symmetry and we study the generalization of the Misner–Sharp–Hernandez mass to general spacetimes, i.e., the Hawking quasilocal mass. The latter is decomposed into a matte...
متن کاملAsymptotic Flatness in Rainbow Gravity
A construction of conformal infinity in null and spatial directions is constructed for the Rainbow-flat space-time corresponding to doubly special relativity. From this construction a definition of asymptotic DSRness is put forward which is compatible with the correspondence principle of Rainbow Gravity. Furthermore a result equating asymptotically flat space-times with asymptotically DSR space...
متن کاملQuasilocal mass in general relativity.
There have been many attempts to define the notion of quasilocal mass for a spacelike two surface in spacetime by the Hamilton-Jacobi analysis. The essential difficulty in this approach is to identify the right choice of the background configuration to be subtracted from the physical Hamiltonian. Quasilocal mass should be non-negative for surfaces in general spacetime and zero for surfaces in f...
متن کاملQuasilocal mass and surface Hamiltonian in spacetime
We discuss the concepts of energy and mass in relativity. On a finitely extended spatial region, they lead to the notion of quasilocal energy/mass for the boundary 2-surface in spacetime. A new definition was found in that satisfies the positivity, rigidity, and asymptotics properties. The definition makes use of the surface Hamiltonian term which arises from Hamilton-Jacobi analysis of the gra...
متن کاملAsymptotic Flatness, Little String Theory, and Holography
We argue that any non-gravitational holographic dual to asymptotically flat string theory in d-dimensions naturally resides at spacelike infinity. Since spacelike infinity can be resovled as a (d − 1)-dimensional timelike hyperboloid (i.e., as a copy of de Sitter space in (d− 1) dimensions), the dual theory is defined on a Lorentz signature spacetime. Conceptual issues regarding such a duality ...
